About the Festival

The Summer Sounds festival is a series of concerts taking place in the beautiful countryside, in the vicinity of the Lake Päijänne. The program is focused on both classical and contemporary music. The first Suvisoitto took place in 1986, born from the idea of conductor Ari Rasilainen, who spent many of his summers in Sysmä.

With a history spanning over three decades, the Suvisoitto festival has evolved over the course of many years. The key principle, reinforced under different artistic directions, settled: the festival program should provide for everyone. The many directors have each enriched the program with their specific ideas, pruning the excess and adding to the whole. Throughout its history, different genres of music have been equally represented in the festival.
